fragmentos: the conceptual work

A door can shut a space….

....Frank Gerlitzki opts for openness , for the creation of contact and for communication.

The tension of passing through all kinds of membranes is the foundation of his artwork, the skin is at the center of his artistic research. Indeed, the skin is a structure of separation as well as an organ for communication with the outside world .

The passing on to a deeper structure in his paintings of coloured spaces with voluntarily imperfect geometries; the confrontation of the hard façade of a human being with his frequently hidden internal fragility in “fragmentos de piel”; the liberation of life, held behind visible or invisible obstacles of the body, are themes that can be found in his work.

His conceptual work is full of a discreet ironic wink to the contemporary art-scene which Frank Gerlitzki also knows as an organizer of cultural events.

Not limiting himself to a specific technique, choosing the medium that seems most appropriated to him for the representation of his idea, integrating a reflexion and questioning about the architecture of the exhibition-space, Frank Gerlitzki however doesn’t hide his origins as a painter.

After his studies in Liège, he took part in several artistic formations with different teachers (among others Jochen Stenschke / Berlin).
He shortly was a member of ”Letzebuerger Artisten Center (LAC)” and among other awards received the “Créateur d’Aujourd’hui” (Paris 1997) and the “Prix Gauguin 1998”.

His exhibitions can be seen in the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg, in France, Belgium, Germany, China and Switzerland
