Lopukhovo... un village ukrainien oublié au coeur de l'épaisse forêt des Carpates, quelque part entre le démantèlement de l'ex-Union soviétique et le rapprochement de la nouvelle Union européenne...

Lopukhovo et son unique ressource, son Or vert: la forêt. Inscrite dans un rapport complexe aux hommes, elle est aujourd'hui menacée par une exploitation qui ne fonctionne plus au bénéfice des habitants du village.
Mère nourricière, mais souvent malmenée, elle avale parfois les hommes pour les recracher loin au-delà des frontières de l'Ukraine.

Lopukhovo et ses habitants – des femmes, des hommes et leur poignant esprit de résistance. Une mosaïque de la VIE MALGRE TOUT, dans une autre Europe, celle que nous ne finissons pas d’oublier.

In 1965 (my year of birth) Opalka, a French born painter of Polish origin, began painting a process of counting - from one to infinity - called "OPALKA 1965/1-∞". Starting in the top left-hand corner of the canvas and finishing in the bottom right-hand corner, the tiny numbers are painted in horizontal rows. Each new canvas, which the artist calls a "'detail", takes up counting where the last left off. All "details" have the same title, "OPALKA 1965/1-∞ Detail - A-Z" (where A stands for the first number on the canvas and Z for the last one) ; the idea does not date although the artist has pledged his life to its execution: "All my work is a single thing, the description from number one to infinity. A single thing, a single life."

On the 22d of July 2004, he achieved the number 5.486.028 (Le Monde - 31.07.04).

kyoko's "house/home" performance

kyoko inatome, an artist with lots of talents did one of her "IN/OUT" performances, not in her usually self-created inflatable structures, but in the windows of my showroom facing the public passing through my street in luxembourg.
i really like her work, but i like her red boots too.... ;-))

next wednesday will be the international day of poverty.a lot of action will take place for this occasion all over the world. one of the easyest ways to show solidarity and your will to act against poverty (should be a "normal" behaviour) is to put this little white band around your arm, like some other people here in luxembourg.

for our belgian-border-project we invited four talented mexican artists: erik bächtold, jaime soler, ernesto morales and sergio ricano to spend some time in luxembourg. the landscape on the both sides of the border served for a land-art project. after visiting their installations last saturday, some politicians joined us to discuss on the subject (of necessity or absurdity?) of borders between countries and especially about differences between belgium/luxembourg- and mexico/USA-fronteras...

Eingeladen zu den Aktivitäten von «Kulturhauptstadt Europa» in Luxemburg, hat Chantal Michel die kleine Kirche von Attert nahe der belgischen Grenze entdeckt. Den länger schon verlassenen, dem Verfall anheimgegebenen Sakralraum, in dem stapelweise altes Mobiliar gelagert wurde wie in einer Beiz nach Polizeistunde oder in einem geschlossenen Kontor, beliess sie nahezu unberührt. Nur aufsteigender Disconebel und ein bizarres Leuchten in wechselnden Farben belebten anlässlich der Eröffnung die leise morbide Stimmung, tauchten die Gewölbe in ein traumnahes Licht- und Schattenspiel. Klare Kuben wurden durch die Projektion zu gigantisch verschachtelten Architekturen. Der Gang zwischen den aufgeschichteten Gebilden und ihren Schatten wurde zu einem Fall aus der Jetztzeit. Gefüge im rechten Winkel von Tisch- und Stuhlbeinen gerieten zu einer verwunschenen Stadt untertags, gingen über in verkeilte Karambolagen durcheinander geworfener Stühle. «Les chants de la Sibylle», Kirchengesang aus dem 16. Jahrhundert, erfüllte den Raum zwischen Himmel und Hölle, verband Geheimnis und Verführung mit der Ahnung einer gewaltsam gestörten Ordnung. In ihrer Performance zur Eröffnung sass Chantal Michel hoch oben auf einem der Möbeltürme, in Gummistiefeln, den Kopf mit einem Jutesack verhüllt, reglos, wie ein beiläufig abgestelltes und eigentlich schon vergessenes Mischwesen zwischen Opfer und Popanz.(kunstbulletin)
