the famous da shanzi 798 art district is in fact an industrial zone and in its major part a very active industrial zone.
only a part of it has been affected and is used since a few years by artists and galleries.
the success was enormous and now cafés, bookshops, restaurants have spread in the dusty streets between artist-studios, creative spaces, galleries , normal habitations and all kind of smaller and bigger factories.

as the space is limited, rents are growing. but the demand of more art-space is so big that more and more other districts and villages in the neighbourhood see the same developpment now.
even complete new villages of artist sudios and cultural spaces are under construction right now.
